CPI Trimmed Mean (YoY)

Canada CPI Trimmed Mean, released by Statistics Canada on a monthly basis, measures core inflation by excluding the 20% of weighted monthly price changes at both the highest and lowest ends of the distribution. It filters out extreme price movements, removing 40% of the CPI basket each month, with the excluded components varying according to price changes. Along with CPI Common and CPI Median, it helps the Bank of Canada judge whether price pressures are broad-based across the economy rather than temporary or narrowly focused. Generally, a high reading is seen as bullish for the Canadian Dollar (CAD), while a low reading is seen as bearish.
